Increased Phase Cone Turnover in 80–250 Hz Bands Occurs in the Epileptogenic Zone During Interictal Periods.Ceon Ramon & Mark D. Holmes - 2020 - Frontiers in Human Neuroscience 14.
We found that phase cone clustering patterns in EEG ripple bands demonstrate an increased turnover rate in epileptogenic zones compared to adjacent regions. We employed 256 channel EEG data collected in four adult subjects with refractory epilepsy. The analysis was performed in the 80–150 and 150–250 Hz ranges. Ictal onsets were documented with intracranial EEG recordings. Interictal scalp recordings, free of epileptiform patterns, of 240-s duration, were selected for analysis for each subject. The data was filtered, and the instantaneous phase (...)

  10. La dernière figure du familial : le concept d’hospitalité chez Jacques Derrida.Ramon Mistral - forthcoming - Les Cahiers Philosophiques de Strasbourg.
This article examines Derrida’s concept of hospitality. Unlike friendship, which involves an affective bond and thus cannot find a truly democratic society, hospitality, as defined by Derrida, requires welcoming the stranger without expecting reciprocity. I suggest that Derrida’s focus on hospitality, rather than friendship, aligns with his vision of a truly democratic society. However, Derrida often relies on a domestic model of hospitality. I explore moments where he transcends this framework, emphasizing that hospitality entails bracketing all familial community, including that (...)

Philosopher of Samarqand: Abū Manṣūr al-Māturīdī’s Theory of Properties.Ramon Harvey - 2023 - In Amber L. Griffioen & Marius Backmann, Pluralizing Philosophy’s Past: New Reflections in the History of Philosophy. Springer Verlag. pp. 77-90.
Abū Manṣūr al-Māturīdī (d. 944), from Samarqand in Transoxiana, is the eponym of one of the main Sunnī theological traditions. As a practitioner of kalām (dialectical theology), al-Māturīdī’s approach was often at odds with those engaged in falsafa, the main Arabic philosophical discourse in the Islamic world. However, a close examination of al-Māturīdī’s surviving theological text, Kitāb al-tawḥīd, not only reveals influence in some issues from al-Kindī (d. 873), one of the earliest of the falāsifa, but also interesting philosophical positions (...)

Antecedents of CSR communication by hotels: The case of the Colombian Caribbean Region.Antoni Serra-Cantallops, David D. Peña Miranda & José Ramón-Cardona - 2021 - Business Ethics, the Environment and Responsibility 30 (3):323-337.
By measuring the level of CSR communication carried out by hotels located in the Colombian Caribbean region and identifying the main determinant factors influencing this level (including pressure from the different stakeholders), this paper contributes to deepening our understanding of the antecedents of CSR communication in small and medium‐sized enterprises (SMEs) operating in emerging economies and, particularly, in the hotel industry, for which no previous studies on this topic could be uncovered. The results reveal that the level of CSR disclosure (...)

One of the scholars who have provided important contributions to the field of American studies in Romania is Professor Marius Jucan, PhD. The present paper is an attempt to decode, in only some pages, the type of discourse/writing that his books construct. The texts that make the subject of professor Jucan’s studies invite the reader and the writer to engage in a type of discovery that conditions understanding and induces revelations of diverse facets of ‘truth’– the interplay of text and (...)

Der Mikrokosmos Ramon Llulls: eine Einführung in das mittelalterliche Weltbild.R. D. F. Pring-Mill - 2001 - Bad Cannstatt: Friedrich Fromann.
Pring-Mill's study depicts the prevalent, but often neglected worldview of the Middle Ages, according to which the macrocosm is a chain of created being ascending from the four elements of the material world to the numerologically structured celestial spheres up to the creator himself. Pring-Mill's work reveals a fundamental correspondence between the three major religions: medieval Christians, Jews and Muslims all sought to describe their religious beliefs using the structures of the macrocosm. Ramon Lull's (1232-1316) philosophy makes use of (...)

Experiences and Lessons from Fiscal Decentralisation in Spain.Joachim Trigo Portela & J. F. Corona Ramón - 2003 - Journal des Economistes Et des Etudes Humaines 13 (4).
The main problem of the Spanish local finance system derives from the existence of two opposite models: LOFCA model versus Floral system. As a result of this opposition, the Spanish system has moved some distance away from the theoretical principles of sound fiscal federalism. The analysis carried out in the article points out clearly the need to improve the fiscal mechanisms of responsibility and financial autonomy and to introduce a system of interjurisdictional responsibility which should palliate the defects detected in (...)

Decision Analysis as a Basis for Medical Decision Making: The Tree of Hippocrates.D. A. Zarin & S. G. Pauker - 1984 - Journal of Medicine and Philosophy 9 (2):181-214.
Physicians have developed a number of implicit and explicit approaches to complex medical decisions. Decision analysis is an explicit, quantitative method of clinical decision making that involves the separation of the probabilities of events from their relative values, or utilities. Its use can help physicians make difficult choices in a manner that promotes true patient participation. Decision analysis also provides a framework for the incorporation of data from multiple sources and for the assessment of the impact of uncertain data on (...)

    The Concept of Building a Network of Digital Twins to Increase the Efficiency of Complex Telecommunication Systems.Sh Zh Seilov, А. T. Kuzbayev, A. A. Seilov, D. S. Shyngisov, V. Yu Goikhman, A. K. Levakov, N. A. Sokolov & Y. Sh Zhursinbek - 2021 - Complexity 2021:1-9.
The technical literature actively discusses ideas for creating digital twins to solve a wide range of problems that arise for enterprises of various kinds. Advances in the areas of information technology and the development of the necessary software really make it possible to obtain important new results through the creation of digital twins. This paper proposes the concept of building a network of digital twins, used to solve a number of actual problems in complex telecommunication systems. Two applications are considered (...)

Medical Students’ Exposure to Ethics Conflicts in Clinical Training: Implications for Timing UME Bioethics Education.S. D. Stites, S. Rodriguez, C. Dudley & A. Fiester - 2020 - HEC Forum 32 (2):85-97.
While there is significant consensus that undergraduate medical education should include bioethics training, there is widespread debate about how to teach bioethics to medical students. Educators disagree about course methods and approaches, the topics that should be covered, and the effectiveness and metrics for UME ethics training. One issue that has received scant attention is the timing of bioethics education during medical training. The existing literature suggests that most medical ethics education occurs in the pre-clinical years. Follow-up studies indicate that (...)
